Less than 5 per mill of gold nanoparticles orally administered enter the body.

After oral uptake more than 99,5 % of the administered particles have been found within the feces, totally independent from the size of the particles, which have been applied [1]. Less than 0,5 % has been translocated into the circulation. The smallest particles (1,4 nm and 1,8 nm) distributed best within the body, and negatively charged particles more than positively ones.
